2017 saw the tenth anniversary of the opening of Portlaoise Enterprise Centre. It was marked by holding a lunch in the Centre attended by client businesses, members of the Board of Directors and some invited guests.
Centre Coordinator, Ms. Patricia Frayne, welcomed all those present and remarked on the different economic climate that existed when the Centre opened its doors in 2007 and how wonderful it was to see how the Centre was thriving ten years later. She remarked on how all spaces within the Centre were now full with a waiting list of people interested in basing themselves here. She commented on how great it was to see entrepreneurship and business spirit alive and well in Laois.
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Brian Ogilvie described how Portlaoise Enterprise Centre had continued to grow and develop as a vibrant community of business activity over the last ten years. He pointed out that the purpose which enterprise centres serve in supporting economic development and regional industry needs is a continually changing and an increasingly more open landscape. He assured the group that the Board is confident that the centre will keep adapting to embrace and capitalise on these challenges over the next ten years.
Luke Hyland of Luke Hyland Consulting Engineers, a client business of the Centre and 2017 IBYE finalist spoke briefly of the challenges he faced when starting up his business and on how important Portlaoise Enterprise Centre has been in helping his business grow and develop.
Other speakers included the CEO of Laois County Council, Mr. John Mulholland and the Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council Cllr Padraig Fleming.
This is an opportune time to reflect on all those who have been involved with Portlaoise Enterprise Centre since it’s doors opened. We remember our previous manager, Mr. John Doris who played a key role in establishing Portlaoise Enterprise Centre during his time here. We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to our current Board of Directors and indeed all past directors for their contributions over the years. The members of our Board of Directors are all volunteers. They come from various different business backgrounds and have diverse and valuable skills.
With such strong foundations, the future is looking good for Portlaoise Enterprise Centre as it starts its second decade!
